Welcome to Blinn College
Title IX, Mental Health, and Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Training for Students
The Blinn College District is committed to fostering a fair and safe environment for all students. Discrimination, including harassment or retaliation, against any student on the basis of race, color, religion, sex/gender, national origin, disability, age, or any other basis prohibited by law is strictly prohibited.
Students are expected and required to have the proper knowledge and training in order to be able to identify, prevent, and respond to any acts of discrimination. As a result, students are expected to take an online training module to ensure they have the adequate knowledge and information. Please see the link below to take the training module.
This training module does track student participation so please ensure you take this training within the first 2 weeks of school. The deadline to complete this training is Monday, September 7, 2020.
Title IX Training for Students
Title IX was created in the Education Amendments of 1972 to prohibit discrimination (to exclude, separate, deny benefits to or otherwise treat differently) based on sex. This includes discrimination based on same-sex, gender identity or failure to conform to stereotypical notions of masculinity or femininity. Any form of sexual discrimination, harassment, misconduct, or violence will not be tolerated in the Blinn community.
Definitions
Sexual Harassment is any form of unwelcome conduct determined by a reasonable person to be so severe, persuasive, and objectively offensive that it effectively denies a person equal access to the recipient's education program or activity.
Nondiscrimination Statement
The Blinn College District, including its career and technical education programs, does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex/gender, national origin, disability, age, or any other basis prohibited by law. A lack of English language skills will not be a barrier to admission and participation in career and technical education programs.
Does Title IX apply to me?
Title IX applies to all students (as well as applicants for admission) at educational institutions (and off-campus) regardless of their sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, part- or full- time status, disability, race or national origin in all aspects of educational programs and activities. All students deserve the right to a fair and safe educational environment.
How do I report Title IX Sexual Harassment?
Any person who believes that they or another person has experienced sexual discrimination, harassment, misconduct or violence should immediately report the alleged acts to:
- any Blinn Employee or Resident Assistant (RA)
- any Blinn Campus Police Officer
- any Blinn Counselor or Nurse (or staff) (CONFIDENTIAL)
Violations may also be reported via:
Title IX Hotline at 979-830-4700
Title IX Email at [email protected],
in person or by using the online reporting form. You have the option to fill in your contact information or submit the report anonymously. Reports submitted anonymously may limit our ability to follow up on an incident. Once a report is submitted online, a copy is emailed to the Title IX Coordinator for appropriate review and necessary action.
All Employees/RAs/Campus Police Officers who receive a report must disclose all information to the Title IX Coordinator/Specialist.
Such a report may be made at any time, including during non-business hours, by using the telephone number or email address, or by mail to the office address, listed for the Title IX Coordinator.
EXCEPTION - A person who holds a professional license requiring confidentiality, such as a counselor or nurse, or who is supervised by such a person shall not be required to disclose a report of prohibited conduct without the student’s consent.
Complainants are strongly encouraged to report violations and have the right to report violations without further participation in any investigation.
