History

Program Description:  The Associate of Arts degree in History is intended to match, within the constraints of the Core Curriculum, the course of study for the first two years of a typical history program at a four-year college or university. It also provides the flexibility for students desiring only an associate degree to specialize the program to individual interests. Students who are interested in.

AttentionStudents must visit with an advisor when they have completed 30 hours toward the degree plan (typically the end of the second semester).

Transfer Information

This History degree provides a pathway to transfer to a four-year college or university where students can earn a baccalaureate degree. Students are strongly encouraged to select a transfer destination by the time they have completed 30 semester credit hours. Students should consult with their chosen transfer institution regarding recommended courses that will transfer and be applied to their baccalaureate degree program.

Associate degrees transfer to Texas A&M University, Sam Houston State University, University of Houston, Texas State University, and more. Historians enhance our understanding of the world by examining past events, figures, and cultures.  Students in history also examine the development of national and state identities.  Historical study evaluates events and processes that have changed the world, and students identify how the past affects the present day.  History classes enhance students’ critical thinking skills and provide experience analyzing primary and secondary sources.  This degree plan typically leads to transfer to a four-year program and the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in either history or education.
