Program Description:  The Associate of Science degree in Education is intended to match, within the constraints of the Core Curriculum, the course of study for the first two years of a typical interdisciplinary studies (education) degree at a four-year college or university. This degree allows for two extra early childhood/education courses in this degree program. The degree has an area of concentration* of six hours.

Use this Program Map as an advising guide to choose courses with your advisor and track progress toward milestones and completion of degree. This is a recommended sequence of courses. Students have flexibility in the actual scheduling of courses and decisions about number of hours per semester.

Life and Physical Science Core Course 3 Select a course from the Life and Physical Science section of the Core Curriculum. TAMU requires a 4 hour lab science course.
Creative Arts Core Course 3 May select a different course from the Creative Arts section of the Core Curriculum Course List.
HIST 1301 United States History 3 Select a course from the American History section of the Core Curriculum.
TECA 1303 Family, Schools, and Community or TECA 1311 Educating Young Children or TECA 1318 Wellness of the Young Child or TECA 1354 Child Growth and Development 3 Area of concentration. These specific courses are early childhood education courses. Students should always refer to the intended transfer institution in choosing specific courses to complete this degree.

Literature courses do not have to be taken in sequence. Students should always refer to the intended transfer institution in choosing specific courses to complete this degree.

Transfer Information

This Associates of Science in Education degree provides a pathway to transfer to a four-year college or university where students can earn a baccalaureate degree. Students are strongly encouraged to select a transfer destination by the time they have completed 30 semester credit hours. Students should consult with their chosen transfer institution regarding recommended courses that will transfer and apply to their baccalaureate degree program.
