The Blinn College District Music Department will showcase faculty and student talent with three upcoming performances in Brenham.

On Monday, Oct. 7, soprano Dr. Diane Burt will perform at 5 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall, located in the C.F. Schmidt Building. The following evening, Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Blinn College Choir Invitational Concert will take place at 7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 305 W. Third Street in Brenham. On Thursday, Oct. 10, Professor John Dujka will perform a recital at 7 p.m. in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center.

All performances are free and open to the public. No tickets are required, and Burt’s and Dujka’s recitals will be livestreamed on the Blinn Music Department’s YouTube channel.

Burt, a distinguished soprano, previously taught opera, voice, and music education at Brigham Young University-Idaho and Idaho State University for a combined 18 years. She now teaches private voice lessons and serves as a coach for musical theater productions.

Blinn’s Choir Invitational Concert marks the department’s first event of its kind, featuring performances from both Blinn’s choirs and area high school ensembles. Dr. Daniel Johnson, Blinn Professor of Voice and Opera, said he is excited about the event’s potential to become an annual tradition.

“We hope to make this an exciting, ongoing opportunity for area high school choirs,” Johnson said.

Dujka has been with Blinn since 1990, teaching piano, group piano, music theory, and the history of rock and popular music.

Blinn’s Music Department offers small class sizes, personalized attention, and hands-on learning. The department’s Associate of Arts Degree in Music provides students with a strong foundation in music theory, history, composition, and performance.
