Blinn's Taylor elected to Southwestern Psychological Association leadership position

Phylicia Taylor will serve as a professional representative on the organization’s Executive Council

Blinn College District Social Sciences Division Operations Coordinator Phylicia Taylor recently was elected to the Executive Council for the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA). Taylor will serve as a professional representative for the organization during the 2024-25 academic year.

“I was introduced to the SWPA while attending the organization’s annual conference with our Psychology Club and Psi Beta students who loved the immersive learning environment and the confidence they gained from presenting their research,” Taylor said. “I’m extremely proud to represent Blinn by serving on SWPA’s Executive Council and playing a crucial role in creating the same experience for other students. I feel privileged to work at an institution that supports and encourages professional development, is dedicated to serving the community, and always puts its students first.”

The SWPA is the official American Psychological Association affiliate for the southwest region of the United States. The organization’s mission is to promote and encourage scientific, professional, and educational initiatives in the psychological community.

Taylor has been at Blinn since 2019. In addition to her role as operations coordinator for the Division of Social Sciences, she serves as an instructor for Blinn’s learning frameworks courses providing students with support and strategies to succeed in college. She also is a mentor for the Blinn Navigators, a program aimed at helping students achieve their educational and personal goals.

Taylor is an advisor for Blinn’s Psychology Club and psychology honors organization, Psi Beta. She also is president of Blinn’s Staff Council, which is committed to cultivating an engaged and enthusiastic community of staff members dedicated to supporting one another and Blinn students. Under Taylor’s leadership, the Staff Council recently organized a donation drive benefiting the Brazos Valley Food Bank that collected 240 pounds of food and in-demand items. She earned her Master of Science in psychology from the Indiana Institute of Technology.

Blinn’s Division of Social Sciences teaches critical thinking and observation skills, and challenges students to examine the world around them.
