The Blinn College District Board of Trustees approved of updates to Blinn’s strategic plan during its regular meeting Tuesday.
Developed by a 16-member Strategic Planning Committee with input from faculty, staff, and campus advisory boards, Blinn’s strategic plan outlines its vision, mission, goals, and objectives and serves as a roadmap for the institution, helping to guide its actions and resource allocation in the coming years. This includes the review of mission and vision statements; development of goals and objectives; an analysis of the College’s strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities; and its strategies and initiatives. As part of the strategic planning process, the College identified three priorities: student success, performance excellence, and planned growth.
The board also heard a report from Dr. Becky McBride, Vice Chancellor for Student Services, showing the preliminary spring enrollment figures already are ahead of last year’s certified totals. As of Monday, Feb. 12, 15,720 students had registered for spring classes, ahead of last year’s final figure of 15,685.
Blinn enrolled 2,128 students for the winter minimester, a 3.14% decrease from last year. Registration remains open for spring 8- and 4-week courses.
In other business, the board authorized the College to negotiate and execute contracts for:
- flooring replacement in Buildings 4, 5, and 7 at Blinn College Park Apartments on the Brenham Campus;
- interior finish upgrades in Buildings C and H on the Bryan Campus;
- and the demolition of Buccaneer, Katherine Atkinson, Lockett, and Spencer halls on the Brenham Campus.
