Blinn livestock judging program dominates Texas Tech University's Southern Stockman contest

Seven sophomores place in top 10 as Blinn remains No. 2 in national rankings

The Blinn College livestock judging team won seven of the top 10 individual spots at the Southern Stockman contest recently held at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

Blinn’s Cassie Jo Bennett was high individual overall with 854 points. Bennett also was high individual in hogs and placed second in sheep/goats, third in cattle, and third in reasons.

Samuel Belt was second high individual (833 points) and placed fifth in hogs and sixth in sheep/goats. Dylan Hartman was third high individual (832 points), placing sixth in cattle and 10 th in sheep/goats.

Blane Warnken was fourth high individual (831 points) and was fifth in reasons and 10 th in hogs. Weston Hinze was fifth high individual (825 points), placing fourth in sheep/goats and eighth in reasons. Cayden Alexander was the 10 th high individual (818 points) and was eighth in sheep/goats.

Other placings for Blinn were Justin Speis, fifth in sheep/goats; Thalia Ochoa, seven in sheep/goats; Bryson Stone, sixth in hogs; Holly Alderson, ninth in hogs; Dax DeLozier, eighth in cattle; and Kinsey Gardner, 10 th in cattle.

In the freshman division, Blinn’s Lane Hogan was high individual overall with 848 points and was also high individual in hogs. Hogan placed third in reasons, third in sheep/goats, and ninth in cattle.

Owen Seidenberger was second high individual and was high individual in cattle, second in hogs, and fifth in reasons. Laney Harryman was third high individual and placed fourth in hogs, fifth in cattle, and ninth in reasons.

Also placing for Blinn were Maddox Hartmann, high individual in sheep/goats; Jakob Sansom, sixth in cattle; Grant Kubala, eighth in sheep/goats; Landon Kelley, sixth in hogs; Kloee Stokes, eight in hogs; and Lane Higbie, ninth in hogs.

“The Southern Stockman is an awesome contest to help us prepare with our sophomore team as we head toward our second national contest of the year in Louisville,” said Adrian Austin, livestock judging team assistant coach. “This weekend served as a great chance for both our sophomores and freshmen to get out and compete at a high level.”

Blinn maintained its second-place spot in Livestockjudging.com’s national rankings.

Blinn’s next competition will be at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Ky. on Nov. 13.

Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including livestock judging, Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture. Blinn offers agriculture classes on all its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex on the Brenham Campus serving as the program’s hub.
