The Blinn College-Bryan Campus recently hosted the Region IV meeting of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association. Focused on fostering collaboration and creating networking opportunities, the regional meeting brought together Student Government Association (SGA) students from the Bryan, Brenham, and Schulenburg campuses as well as student government representatives from other regional schools.
As a component of the meeting, students manned a booth at Downtown Bryan’s First Friday, where they interacted with local children by providing arts and craft and yard game activities.
A business meeting on the Bryan Campus closed out the event. SGA members from Region IV will reconvene in February at Hill College in Hillsboro for the spring meeting followed by the statewide meeting in Austin at the end of April.
Blinn’s SGA serves as a liaison between students and administrators, represents the voice of the campus student body, and makes improvements in all areas of campus life. SGA fosters community by hosting beneficial educational and recreational student activities and collaborating with Blinn’s Office of Student Leadership and Activities to support and oversee all campus clubs and organizations.
Blinn students Jessica Espino (Brenham) and Charlie Dumesnil, Jr. (Schulenburg) currently hold the leadership positions of Secretary and Parliamentarian for Region IV.
The Texas Junior College Student Government Association is the only student-maintained organization in the state that works to promote the cause of community college students at the local, regional, state, and national level. It is comprised of more than 70 member colleges across Texas.
