Blinn College livestock judging teams earn top finishes as 2022-23 season begins
Blinn places second overall at Cimarron Classic, takes top spot in State Fair of Texas freshman division

Blinn College livestock judging teams began their 2022-23 season with top finishes in two prestigious contests.
Blinn recently placed second overall in the team competition at the Cimarron Classic Livestock Judging Contest sponsored by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.
At the State Fair of Texas Collegiate Livestock Judging Competition, held Oct. 10 in Dallas, Blinn’s freshman team placed first overall and its sophomore team was second.
At the Cimarron Classic, Blinn totaled 4,629 points, behind only Northern Oklahoma College’s 4,640.
Blinn’s Gunner Coburn was fourth high individual with 941 points. Kyle Real was seventh overall with 932 points, Weston McElroy was 10th with 925 points, and Taylor Turner was 11th with 908 points.
Also competing for Blinn were Kendahl Nix, 19th individual with 912 points; Cade Anderson, 20th with 908 points; and Brady Halfmann, 21st with 898 points.
At the State Fair of Texas Livestock Judging Competition, Blinn’s freshman team totaled 4,189 points to place first. Redlands Community College was second with 4,143 points.
Blinn’s Weston Hinze was second high individual with 855 points. Other individual placings for Blinn were Ally Smitley, sixth with 846 points; Cassie Bennett, seventh, 844 points; Dax Delozier, eighth, 843 points; Dylan Hartman, ninth, 841 points; Tanna Thiel, 10th, 841 points; and Steele Kenney, 11th, 841 points.
Blinn’s sophomore team totaled 4,618 to place second behind Northern Oklahoma College’s 4,629 points.
Karson Patton of Blinn was the top individual with 949 points. Other individual placings were McElroy, 10th, 932 points; Coburn, 11th, 931 points; Halfmann, 12th, 929 points; Turner, 13th, 927 points; and Nix, 14th, 927 points.
Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including livestock judging, Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture.
Blinn offers agriculture classes on all its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex on the Brenham Campus serving as the program’s hub.
