After his older sister earned her associate degree from the Blinn College District, Derek Konvicka knew he wanted to follow in her footsteps.
Konvicka started his college career at Blinn, then transferred to Texas State University, where he is pursuing his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre and teaching certification. Through reverse transfer, Konvicka applied credits earned at Texas State toward his associate degree, and last spring he earned his Associate of Arts in Drama even as he progressed toward his bachelor’s degree.
Now Konvicka has an additional college degree in hand. He plans to graduate from Texas State next fall and will have an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, and teaching certification on his résumé.
“The process was easy and I’m glad I received my degree through Blinn,” he said.
Across the State of Texas, Konvicka and hundreds of other students enrolled at four-year universities are earning their associate degrees from Blinn College, even months or years after they took their last course at Blinn.
To be eligible for reverse transfer, students must have taken at least 15 credit hours at Blinn, met current degree requirements, and earned a minimum of 60 credit hours, including coursework at their transfer institution. To check their eligibility, students can contact Graduation Manager Kristi Reddoch at [email protected] or 979-830-4174.
Eligible students may receive their degree with the next graduating class. If additional coursework is required, Blinn will inform the students which courses are needed to complete the degree.
“I encourage anyone who has come to Blinn to look over their transcripts and apply for graduation,” Reddoch said. “Sometimes life happens and students may not be able to earn their bachelor’s degree quite yet, but they may already have earned their associate and just didn’t know it. An associate degree is a great addition to any resume, regardless of a student’s education or career background.”
Students may apply for reverse transfer by completing the Reverse Transfer Application available at www.blinn.edu/reverse-transfer.
