Blinn English Department invites student entries in short story contest

Contest is open to all current Blinn students

October 11, 2021

The Blinn College English Department invites all current students to submit their best stories related to the fall or winter seasons for a chance to win prizes.

Sponsored by W.W. Norton & Company, the contest is open to all students and will accept submission from 9 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, through 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29. Students may submit one typed, double-spaced short story of 3,000 or fewer words. Stories may not contain explicit material.

First place receives $75 plus a book prize, second place receives $25 plus a book prize, and third place receives a book prize. Winners will be announced in November.

Students on the Brenham and Bryan campuses must submit three printed copies to their campus Writing Center (Brenham Campus Academic Building, Room 9 or Bryan Campus A-118) and submit a digital copy to [email protected]. Students on the RELLIS, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses and students taking online classes only need to submit a digital copy.

Each submission should include the title alone on the cover page. The author’s name, Blinn ID, phone number, email address, and story title should be listed on a separate sheet of paper attached to each submission (or on a separate page in a digital document).

All submissions will be eligible for possible publication in Blinn’s student work journals.
