For the first time, the Blinn College District will offer Architecture 1307: Architectural Graphics I on the Brenham Campus.

Architecture 1307 is a studio class in which students work on projects after a lecture period. Blinn has offered three core architectural classes (Architectural History I and II, and Introduction to Architecture) at the Brenham Campus since fall 2016.

“A studio course is a lot different than a typical lecture class,” said Craig Jeffrey, Assistant Academic Dean of Blinn’s Architecture Program. “In a studio class, you have a lecture period but then students work on their projects where they receive individual instruction from the instructor, interact with classmates, and critique each other’s work. They become a small family.”

Students will study manual drafting techniques and learn about point perspectives, floor plans, site plans, and architectural terminology, he added.

Blinn offers an Associate of Arts in Architecture and an Associate of Arts in Architecture Field of Study on its Bryan Campus. Some architectural classes are also offered on Blinn’s Brenham and RELLIS campuses. Both degrees are designed for transfer to a four-year university, and Blinn has architecture transfer agreements with Texas A&M University’s Landscape and Urban Planning Program and the Texas Tech College of Architecture.

Graduates of Blinn’s program may work with a contractor as part of an administrative team in entry-level positions that can lead to more advanced jobs, including estimator, job coordinator, or project manager.

Program graduates are also qualified for positions in land and project development, technical sales jobs focusing on building materials and equipment, or positions with governmental agencies or financial institutions.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median pay in the field was $82,320 in 2020.
