Four students have completed Blinn College’s 200-hour Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program.
Graduates of the program held in Brenham at the A.W. Hodde Jr. Technical Education Center were Madison Garrett, Bryan; Hailey Lanehart, Bryan; Tebryia Page, Giddings; and Amanda Green, College Station.
The graduates are now eligible to take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant exam.
CCMAs are medical support professionals who perform clinical and administrative duties under the direction of a physician. They perform a variety of job duties, including maintaining patient medical records, scheduling appointments, administering medications, collecting and preparing laboratory specimens, and recording vital signs.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, national demand for CCMAs is expected to grow 19% between 2019 and 2029.
Graduates of Blinn’s CCMA programs are highly sought after for employment in healthcare, said Karla Flanagan, Blinn’s Dean of Technical and Community Education.
“With more and more medical facilities expanding the roles of clinical medical assistants, this bodes well for graduates,” Flanagan said. “CCMAs are playing an increasingly significant role in the healthcare industry, laying the groundwork for quality health care.”
Blinn’s CCMA Program includes courses on medical office operations, equipment, procedures, and how those apply in an ambulatory care setting. Students in the traditional program format may then apply specialized theory, skills, and concepts in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of a healthcare provider. The program is also offered online. Students who complete that format are also eligible to take the NHA exam.
To enroll in the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Program, students must first participate in a mandatory online healthcare information session.
